"Love is a four legged word"
Keep up to date on Archie and Chico's antics by following them on Instagram.
I first met Archie on the 7th of January 2016 at the Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter. I thought, what a handsome young man he was, surely he would be adopted quickly. As the week went by, Archie's behaviour deteriorated. He was one of the worst cases of "kennel crazy" I had ever seen. Barking, jumping and frantic to get out, most people would walk by his kennel without a second glance. But, I knew he was a different dog outside the small kennel, and decided on the 27th of January to rescue him and give him a home he deserved!
Granted, his time at the shelter took its toll on him, and with the help of behaviourists Archie has become the most loyal, clever and loving dog I could have ever asked for.
Chico was surrendered to Rescue Hub in August 2017 after his owner decided he didn't want him any more. At the time he was 4.5 years old, and had never left his backyard. No walks, no vet visit, nothing. I started fostering Chico in November 2017, but, due to his time in isolation, Chico needed a lot of help being socialised with people and dogs. After a lot of thinking, I decided to adopt Chico in February 2018 and dedicate my time to him teaching him how to be a real dog.
Both Archie and Chico have taught me a lot about dog behaviour, training and, most of all, dedication. It has not been an easy path, but a path I would not change for the world.
